Keeping Up With Kennedy

Carving Pumpkins

Kennedy and I got over a nasty stomach flu just in time to do a bit of pumpkin carving today. Kennedy wanted to do everything herself this year. I usually do the messy stuff then help her with a simple design. She managed it all on her own just fine. She enjoys gutting the pumpkins as much as I do. I am glad it was a nice enough day that we could complete the whole process outside on the lawn. I didn't have to worry about the seeds and mush getting on the carpet. I also got a few really good shots of her with her jack-o-lantern on the warm fall afternoon.

She was very intent on saving the seeds this year so we could have a whole patch of our own pumpkins next year. I am not sure how well that will work out. I did manage to roast a few batches of the seeds. Kennedy really enjoyed my pumpkin pie batch. I covered the butter soaked seeds with pumpkin pie spice and sugar before roasting them...... who wouldn't enjoy that?

Kennedy costume turned out really good. I will post a few pictures of her on Halloween if I have the time. This has always been my favorite time of year and I am so glad that Kennedy has come to enjoy it as much as I do.

Preparing for Halloween

I tried to talk Kennedy into a Halloween costume but she wouldn't go for it. I saw a whoopee cushion costume in a catalog and I thought it would be so funny. She said she thought it would be weird and started talking about being a cowboy. While we were shopping this weekend, she came across a devil wig with bright red hair and horns sticking out. She fell in love with it. She actually looks pretty good in it.

The plan is that she will be a devil this year and I will be an angel. Then next year we will swap and she will be the angel. I need to start working on the costumes now but I will take a quick shot of her in the wig and post it. She looks so great. I just hope she will keep it on longer than she did the vampire wig I bought her last year.

First Day of School

I know it is a bit late but life has been busy this month so I have not had time to get pictures unloaded from my camera. Kennedy started school on August 28, 2006. She is in the second grade. Her teacher this year is Mrs. Clark. I was very excited after meeting her at the parent teacher conference. I think she is just the free spirit that Kennedy can relate to and I hope Kennedy will learn alot from her. Kennedy picked out her outfit for the first day of school. You can't really see it in the picture but it says "Kiss My Boo Boo" on the front with a picture of Yogi's friend Boo Boo. That is her family nickname so when I saw the shirt I had to buy it.

I have a tradition of always taking a picture of her walking toward the school sign. It usually says welcome back and the date that school started but they didn't not change it this time. I was a bit bummed out but I still took the picture. I am thinking about using photoshop to edit the picture. Is that cheating?

Kennedy was very anxious to get to her class. She didn't want to wait for us. Have I whined about how fast she is growing up lately? I will hold back just in case I am getting annoying. This is a picture of her sitting at her desk. Don't worry, she isn't attending school with face-less aliens. I blurred the faces of the other people just to be safe. She picked out a seat next to her friend from preschool, Evalee(on the right) and her new friend that lives near her Dad's house, Maria(on the left). She has since had to be moved. We all know how much Kennedy loves to chat.

I am very excited for this year. Kennedy still has an immense love of learning and I hope she never loses it. I doubt she will will have it when she is a teenager but what do you expect?

Back to School

Kennedy starts school on August 28, 2006. She is going to be in the second grade. I think I may be more excited then she is. We are meeting her new teacher on Thursday. Her name is Mrs Clark. I have heard all good things about her and I am sure Kennedy will love her.

School supply shopping has been fun this year but Kennedy has been asking for the strangest things. Have you every tried to find a set of washable markers with double tips? It isn't easy. If you happen to know where I can get my hands on some, please let me know.

It's a Purple Party... who could ask for more?

Yesterday was Kennedy's birthday. Her birthday party with her friends is later this month so last night we decided that the two of us would have a little party of our own. We had a purple party. We painted our nails purple, wore purple clothes, made a purple cake and the best part of all dyed our hair purple!
We used the same dye the used when we dyed Kennedy hair red last year. I was excited about it at first but got nervous after I put the mouse on my hair. Kennedy wasn't worried at all. She did want to put the mouse on herself but I wouldn't let her. We walked over to our neighbor's house to have her take a picture while the color was developing. I rinsed the color out a bit early because I was a chicken.
I really like the way Kennedy's hair turned out. I think it might be because she has less hair then I do, so the mouse covered more. It was fun but I really can't wait for the color to wash out and I have my normal hair color back.

Two years ago....what an adorable flower girl!

This is an old picture but I ran across it in my inbox and I had to share it. Two years ago, Kennedy's Uncle Kyle got married. Kennedy was the cutest flower girl I have ever seen. She took her flower girl duties very seriously. I am still amazed that she stayed clean for as long as she did.

Not a baby sister but close enough

Kennedy has always wanted a baby sister or brother. I believe she started asking for one as soon as she could speak. Well maybe not that soon. :) She is almost getting her wish. I volunteered to help take care the new baby of one of my friends. Her name is Ashley....I call her Ash. Ashley is 2 months old and the cutest little baby I have seen....except for Kennedy of course. She should be staying with us a few nights a week for the next few months.

Kennedy can't get enough of her. She loves to talk to her and make her smile. Kennedy is very helpful and loves fetching diapers for me and has even helped to feed her. Kennedy calls Ashley her cousin. She brings all her friends over to meet her and touch her soft head.

A way to find out what is new in Kennedy's life. Don't miss out on anything. I will try to post something once a week. Please leave a comment. I will read them all to Kennedy.

Did you Miss This?
